No Turning Back Now
Dan made the call and just like that we were boat owners. We were both excited and terrified at the same time. We scheduled a time to meet with the current owner, Scott, and we headed to Providence yet again to pick her up. Scott agreed to ride along with us for the first time as we brought her over to the mooring at Clark's Boat Yard in Jamestown Rhode Island. It was a cold September day and Dan and I waited impatiently for Scott to show up. Finally, he got there and we drove out to our new boat.

Buy a boat? Sure why not?
Nine months ago when Dan told me casually over the phone one night that he was thinking about buying a sailboat off of craigslist, i'll be honest, I never thought he would actually go through with it. Before I knew it, however, I was in the car driving to Providence to see a 32 Rhodes Chesapeake. The thing about Dan is he's a doer. He is not the kind of person to talk about all the things he could and should do someday. He has an idea, he will start planning, and then he will make it happen. I wish I could say that I am the same, but that would be a lie. While I may not be the one to plan these things, I never hesitate to go along with Dan's ideas. I think that's what he needed too. After seeing the boat for the first time and looking around I couldn't imagine completing all the work that needed to be done. As I listened to Dan talk to the current owner about different repair techniques and what it is like to sail, I knew Dan was determined to make this work. We drove home that afternoon and Dan asked me what I thought. From the look on his face, it was so obvious what he wanted me to say. I knew it would be more work than I could ever imagine and I didn't know the first thing about renovating a sailboat. It couldn't be more clear, however, that nothing would make Dan happier than having me on board (pun intended). At the end of the day after hours of talking about how awesome it would be to own a boat, Dan turned to me and said "What do you think? Should we buy a boat?" It was a no brainer. I said, "Sure, why not!"
